Samson and Delilah is a 1949 American epic romance film produced and directed by Cecil B. DeMille, starring Hedy Lamarr as Delilah and Victor Mature as Samson. George Sanders, Angela Lansbury, and Henry Wilcoxon are also featured. The film is adapted from the biblical Book of Judges and Vladimir Jabotinsky's 1930 novel Judge and Fool.[1]
Distributed by Paramount Pictures, Samson and Delilah is one of few pre-1950 films to remain under the studio's ownership. It was the highest-grossing film of 1950[3] and, adjusted for inflation, it is the sixth highest-grossing biblical epic film.[4] Of its five Academy Award nominations, the film won two for Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
